Students celebrate ‘Keralappiravi’
Editor on 11/17/2009 at 8:40pm (UTC) | | Organised a variety of programmes and activities to celebrate ‘Keralappiravi’ and to mark the 53rd anniversary of the formation of the state of Kerala.
The state of Kerala was born on November 1, 1956.
The Girls section of the school, with children dressed in the traditional saris and costumes of Kerala, reflected the culture and tradition of the state.
The traditional harvest songs and folksongs rendered by the children aroused nostalgic feelings among the audience.
The Home Science Department of the school arranged a mega ‘food mela’, where the girl students tried their skill in the preparation of a variety of dishes- Arabic, Chinese and Indian, besides the mouth-watering dishes from Kerala.
Deputy general-secretary of the school P K Mohamed and its Principal A P Sasidharan, vice-principals and head of different sections were given a warm reception in the traditional manner of Kerala.
Students also exhibited their artistic skills in the floral arrangements on the floor.
Geetha Suryan and Sreelakshmi R Babu coordinated the events in the girls’ section.
In the boys’ section, the celebrations focussed on the various literary competitions.
An exciting quiz contest based on Kerala literature, culture, art, classical films, history and geography was conducted in the conference hall.
V Abdul Salam was the quiz master.
PA Abdul Kareem coordinated the programme.
The Kerala Board section organised cultural events and staged a skit titled ‘Kadam Vangiya Chenda’ (The Borrowed Drum).
The thematic programme, directed by Moideen, reflected the deterioration of human values in various fields of Kerala life.

Meditation for MES students

• The Kerala Board Section of MES Indian School has recently been bolstered by the addition of new activities for the academic session of 2008 -09.
Recently, meditation was introduced for the students to enable them to concentrate better on their studies. Pupils begin their day's studies with meditation under the guidance of Sasikumar and George P Mathew. As part of the students' Animation Programme, George P Mathew recently gave a presentation on Effective Learning Skills to the KB students. Another progressive step that has been initiated is the growing of plants in front of classrooms with a view to inculcating love for nature and environment protection in the students.
On Tuesday, a new computer lab with 40 work stations were dedicated to the students by the Senior Vice President of the MES Governing Body, Shamsudeen. The computer lab, at the newly added fifth phase block, is fitted with software like Linux and Open Office. | | |

Computer science curriculum at MES

The Board of Secondary Education, Kerala-India, has granted permission to MES Indian School to start this new section. Students who are under the Kerala Board of Education could avail of Computer Science as one of their main subjects.

Award-winning students with school members and teachers
Five hundred and one students, who have completed class 12th from MES Indian School, were given a farewell by the school governing body on Sunday. Class teachers presented mementoes to pupils.
Speaking at the function, governing body president K P Abdul Hameed said the school had equipped each student well enough to face future challenges.
Principal F M Basheer Ahmed told the students to demonstrate the good qualities they learnt at the school.
At the function, Adithya Muraleedharan and Bonnie Cherian were adjudged the best outgoing boy students in the science and commerce streams respectively while Anjali Ravindran and Sweeny D’ Souza were adjudged the best outgoing girl students in the science and commerce stream respectively.
Among those pursuing Kerala syllabi, Rafzina M P was declared the best student. | | |

MES choir wins kudos at youth festival

MES Indian School’s choir played a key role in the institution’s overall championship at the Inter-School Youth Festival organised by Friends of Thrissur by netting the top prizes in Hindi and Malayalam group music competitions.
“The unique aspect of the choir’s victory was that the choir rendered the songs without the accompaniment of any musical instrument as per the specification of the competition,” a school official said yesterday.
The members of the school choir were Basil Grego Jacob, Farzene Ashraf, Keith Roche, Benji B Thomas, Aswathy Marie Mathew, Amritha, Jini Francis, Anupama Nair, and Namita Kaur (not in the picture).
